Substations generally have switching , Protection and control equipment, and tranformers. In a large substation, circuit breakers are used to interrupt any short circuits or overload current that may occur on the network.
Medium Voltage (MV)
MV Cabling – Open trench cable laying is often used a opposed to laying cables directly into cable ducts. This method of laying cables into the ground tends to be used where the cables in use are of a higher voltage (MV HV Cables) and therefore have a greater outside cable diameter.
Transformer – A Transformer is a device that transfers electric engery from one alternating -current circuit to one or more other cricuits, either increasing (stepping up) or reducing (stepping down) the voltage.
MV Switchgear – In an electric power system, switchgear is composed of electrical disconnect switches, fuse or circuit breakers used to control, protect and isolate electrical equipment. Switchgear is used both to de-engergize equipment to work to be done and to clear faults downstream.
